The bone loss that accurs during the healing period is closely related to the degree and duration of inflammation and infection as well as the scar volume. In other words, the healing process is slowed if soft tissue wounds around the implants become infected during period. Inflammation combined with significant scarring results in even more bone loss.

Who hypothesized that bone loss around nonsubmerged implants is related to connective tissue and is not influenced by the epithelialdimensions. These results also support the theory proposed by Berglund and Lindth, who reported that bone loss occurs to generate the space necessary for the adaptation of the soft tissue zone.therefore, early implant bone loss can be prevented or minimized if soft tissue wounds around the implants heal quickly with little inflammation and scar tissue formation.
