Flapless implantology Effect on peri-implant bone loss

It was reported that most crestal bone loss occurs in the early phase (3 – 4 months) after implant placement. Significantly hirger rates of crestal bone resorption occur during this period than in any other post –loading priods.

A comparison of the flap and flapless procedures revealed higher crestal bone loss in the implants placed with the flapprocedure during the early postsurgical period.

The mean crestal bone loss was approximately 1 mm more in the implants placed with the flap procedure than in the implants placed with the flapless procedure . the authors obtained a similar result in both the animal experiments and clinical study.

The effect of flap and flapless surgery on the peri-implant bone loss was compared using a canine mandible model.
