Flapless implantology Effect on healing of peri-implant mucosa

Incision line opening in the most common postoperative complication of flap implant surgery. In the other words, after surgery, the sutured area opens where the reflected soft tissues are approximated and sutured.

The opening of the sutured area aggravates and lengthes the inflammatory phase of repair, leaving an extensive scar.

Opening of the incision line does not occur in flapless implant surgery as it does not require sutures. Moreover, the peri- implant mucosa has small, clean, closed wounds after a flapless procedure. This may improve the ability of the peri-implant mucosa to heal quickly with little scar formation. Scar tissue is vulnerable in terms of defense. The level of tissue injury influences the speed and quality of the healing process.
