Flapless implantology Effect on implant stability Effect on early plaque control

The effects of flap and flapless surgery on implant stability were compared using a canine mandible model. Implants stabilized more quickly without flap elevation than with flap elevation. For flapless implants, the increase of stability occurred after two weeks, without a period of decreasing stability.

Effect on early plaque control

Early plaque control plays an important role in healing the tissue surrounding the implant. Cleaning the implants immediately after flap implant surgery may be quite difficult because a long sutured wound in the incision area is vulnerable to mechanical irritation.
